Film criticism too Pig: piggy cage in the big city
Nicolas Cage chases the people who stole his truffle pig sounds like a movie for a very specific variety person. The variety man, who likes to seek the Oscarpreighter, as he tears his eyes, crowded around like a madman and people on a crazy manner. It sounds like a movie from the category Cage Raster and thats why we are here. That the man has a talent for contemplated figures and can lead his special variety of escalation to an absolutely glorious show, Cage has already proven in films such as Mandy or Face / Off thousands of times. But it could be just as good for one of these films, of which Cage per year felt 20 power and for which the label Trash would be too generous, as Kill Chain, A Score to Settle or last Willys Wonderland. A Cheap Direct-to-Video Cup of John Wick, in the Cage by his scenes sleepwalking and the above all with high degree of violence and frequent use of the word fuck from the VoD unity pace.
I am glad to report that Pig is definitely not about the second, surprisingly but not the first. Instead, director Michael Sarnoff serves an excellent drama in his feature film debut, creative passion and authenticity that is one of the largest cinematic highlights of the year.
Film criticism too pig: piggy cage in the big city (1) Source: Leonine Distribution The story is conceivable Simple: After the truffle sweeper Rob (Cage) of one evening is robbed his truffle pig of Junkies, the hermit must break out of his own broody existence to the To regain animal. He quickly finds the responsible criminals and experiences these that they sold the pig to someone from the restaurant scene in Portland. Rob had self-contents for the scene, but since the death of his wife is only with his contact Amir (Alex Wolff), which sells his truffles to restaurants. Together with the young businessman, he breaks up to Portland to retrieve his pig.
On what happens in the next 90 minutes, I would like to do not want to take in this point at all, as Pig holds one or the other surprise. Despite obvious parallels to John Wick, the confrontations often take an unexpected and completely different route than in the cult ball ballet with Keanu Leaves. A particularly exciting scene is basically just a conversation between Rob and a chef (David Knell), who works in a noble hipster restaurant and serves experimental dishes in type of molecular kitchen.
Film criticism too pig: piggy cage in the big city (3) Source: Leonine Distribution The deconstruction of the Foodie Scene Portlands is only a small part of the story. Amir, who is adorning himself with superficial status symbols and tries to impress his rich father (Adan Akin), is also a difficult and influencing decision to do with a loved one, like Rob. Both can only be difficult to solve their past and do not dare to make the next step in their lives and see the painful truth into the eye. Although the plot has some truly tragic developments, however, Pig is never unnecessary cynically or devastating, director Sarnoff is always sensitive to its characters. He also creates it to perfectly exploit the one-a-a-a-half hour running time. Each scene drives the story progresses and reveals more about their central figures. This efficiency paired with the captivating dialogues and strong performances of Cage, Akin and Wolff ensures that Pig is never boring, despite sometimes very quietly narrowed or blurred.
I really wanted to see the movie on the big screen. While the movie got a theatrical release in the United States, he is with us since 12.11. As VoD and from the 19.11. Available as Blu-ray. Because even if the story about a man in search of his truffle pig is not an action blockbuster or an image-efficient sci-fi epic, she is pure cinema. Simple, technically versed, playful and sensitive.
